About Course

This Grade 8 Mathematics Term 4 course completes the 2026 DBE Annual Teaching Plan. Learners develop and apply the Theorem of Pythagoras, perform transformations on the Cartesian plane and solve measurement problems involving two-dimensional and three-dimensional objects.

The course connects geometry, algebra and measurement through practical problem solving. It concludes with structured revision of the full Grade 8 curriculum and a formal assessment covering Terms 1 to 4.

What Will You Learn?

 • ATP-aligned lessons, guided practice, quizzes, revision activities and formal-assessment preparation.

Course Content

The Theorem of Pythagoras

Investigate the relationship between the sides of a right-angled triangle; determine whether a triangle is right-angled; calculate missing lengths and leave irrational answers in surd form where appropriate.

Transformation Geometry

Reflect, translate and rotate points and triangles on the Cartesian plane; identify transformations from image coordinates; reflect in the line y = x; rotate around a point or the origin.

Enlargements and Reductions

Use proportion and scale factor to describe enlargement and reduction; investigate the effect on perimeter and area; determine transformed coordinates.

Area and Perimeter of 2D Shapes

Calculate perimeter and area of squares, rectangles, triangles, circles and composite polygons; use radius, diameter, circumference, area and pi; solve problems and convert square units.

Surface Area and Volume of 3D Objects

Calculate surface area, volume and capacity of cubes, rectangular prisms and triangular prisms; describe relationships between surface area and volume; solve problems and convert cubic and capacity units.

Full-Year Revision

Integrated revision of the Grade 8 Mathematics curriculum from Terms 1 to 4, with diagnostic activities targeting misconceptions and examination technique.

Final Formal Assessment

A formal test covering Term 4 topics and selected content from Terms 1 to 4.
