About Course

This Grade 10 Mathematics Term 2 course develops formal geometric reasoning, coordinate methods and a flexible understanding of functions and graphs.

Learners prove properties of quadrilaterals and triangles, apply analytical-geometry formulae, investigate algebraic and trigonometric functions, and prepare for the midyear examination.

Course Content

Foundations of Euclidean Geometry
<p>Revise lines, angles, triangles, similarity and congruence; use established geometric results accurately in proofs and problem solving.</p>

Quadrilaterals and Geometric Proof
<p>Define kites, parallelograms, rectangles, rhombi, squares and trapezia; investigate and prove properties of sides, angles, diagonals and areas.</p>

Midpoint Theorem and Riders
<p>Investigate the segment joining the midpoints of two sides of a triangle; solve riders using parallel lines, triangles, quadrilaterals and the midpoint theorem.</p>

Analytical Geometry
<p>Represent figures on the Cartesian plane; derive and apply distance, gradient and midpoint formulae; identify parallel and perpendicular lines.</p>

Functions and Representations
<p>Understand a function as a unique dependence between variables; move flexibly among tables, graphs, words and formulae; determine domain, range, intercepts, asymptotes, symmetry and turning points.</p>

Basic Algebraic Functions
<p>Plot and analyse linear, quadratic, hyperbolic and exponential functions; investigate the effects of parameters a and q; sketch graphs, determine equations and interpret contexts.</p>

Trigonometric Functions
<p>Plot sine, cosine and tangent graphs from 0° to 360°; investigate vertical stretch/reflection and vertical shift; sketch and interpret transformed trigonometric graphs.</p>

Term 2 Assignment, Revision and Midyear Examination
<p>Complete the formal assignment, revise Terms 1 and 2 and prepare for the midyear examination.</p>
